Cordyline Terminalis Mahatma
Common Name: Ti Plant, Hawaiian Ti Plant, Good Luck Plant
Cordyline Terminalis, also known as Ti Plant or Hawaiian Ti Plant, is a popular tropical plant known for its colorful foliage. The “Mahatma” variety of Cordyline Terminalis is distinguished by its unique, attractive leaves, which often display a mix of green, pink, red, and white colours.
Cordyline Terminalis ‘Mahatma’ is valued for its striking appearance and relatively easy care, making it a great addition to both indoor and outdoor plant collections across South Africa.
Appearance
Foliage: The leaves are long, lance-shaped, and can grow up to 60cm long. They have vibrant colors, often with a combination of green, pink, red, and white.
Height: This plant can reach up to 3m in height in optimal conditions, but typically grows to around 1-2m when grown indoors.
Care Requirements
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light levels, but its colors will be less vibrant. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.
Humidity: High humidity is preferred. Mist the leaves regularly or use a humidifier if the indoor air is dry.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18-27°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C.
Soil: Well-draining potting mix is ideal. A mix designed for tropical plants or a combination of regular potting soil with perlite or sand works well.
Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
