Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a tropical plant that is widely known for its culinary and medicinal uses.

Climate
Turmeric thrives in tropical and subtropical climates. It requires temperatures between 20°C to 35°C.

Soil
Turmeric grows best in well-draining, fertile soil with a pH level between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam or loamy soil is ideal.

Planting
Dig holes about 15 to 30cm apart to allow room for growth.

Sunlight
Turmeric plants require partial to full sunlight. Choose a location that receives sunlight for at least 6 to 8 hours a day.

Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water regularly, especially during dry periods. Reduce watering when the plant is dormant.

Fertilisation
Fertilise turmeric plants with a balanced fertiliser or organic compost during the growing season to encourage healthy growth.

Mulching
Mulch the soil around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weed growth.

Harvesting
You can dig up the entire plant or harvest the rhizomes as needed. Gently dig around the rhizomes and lift them from the soil. Wash and dry the rhizomes before use.

Storage
Store harvested turmeric rhizomes in a cool, dry place. They can be kept whole or ground into powder for culinary or medicinal purposes.
